Blending Sounds Activities with Blends and silent E

After I created the nonsense word fluency assessments, I decided to create some blending sounds activities for intervention. The blending sounds interventions/activities allowed my students practice reading blends, digraphs and silent e.
 
One strategy is to have the student’s build  words.  Students are given a variety of letters and then use them to build words and practice blending the sounds to create words. A quick way to set this up for students is to write a letter on Popsicle sticks, small pieces of cardstock or to use magnetic letters. This activity great for learning phonics skills, sounds and spelling.
I paired this particular activity, with my Pirate Nonsense Word Fluency. Using three different pictures of pirate items  (with individual letters) the students pick one of each then create word. We would then put the silent e card on the end and read the new word.

I found this as a great activity to use with students who were in the response to Intervention (RTI) process.

Another nonsense word fluency for blends and digraphs activity I created was task cards with nonsense words on them for students to practice blending. I created 4 cards that say “bang” to use as a game as well. This was a great intervention for students who needed specific phonics practice with a certain blend or digraph.
